Original Mountain Marathon Alps Achensee
Put your skills to the test, master the challenges, and don't lose your sense of humour: The Original Mountain Marathon provides an opportunity for runners to spend unforgettable days at Lake Achensee – including an overnight camp under the stars with their fellow competitors. The Original Mountain Marathon is at the same time a trail running race, a satisfying running event, and a tough mountain marathon.
Tackle the challenges of the mountain world surrounding the placid village of Steinberg am Rofan. In teams of two and carrying a map and a compass, you try to figure out your individual route to the overnight camp and back – considering your ambitions, experience, and personal preferences. During the run, you collect points from designated check stations and your success depends on your route decisions. On the start line, every team of two will receive maps to help them navigate their way to the overnight camp and back to the valley. Runners must bring all the gear they need for the two-day mountain marathon. For safety reasons, the OMM organizers issue a compulsory kit list.
Did you know?
The OMM has its origins in England and Scotland. Since 1968, running enthusiasts have met for the famous mountain navigation race, which has become an established annual event. Over two days and one night camping in natural surroundings, runners prove their mountain experience, which requires orienteering skills, endurance, and teamwork. The participants are also given a map to help them find their individual route.
